- Take a few of those Assault on Black Reach tactical marines. You know you bought the box, it was simply too good of a deal to pass up, and now you have marines-a-plenty. Pick out five.
- Grab your files and get busy grinding off that stupid "tactical squad" arrow. It just doesn't fit on a Sternguard.
- Use the two bolters that have scopes attached to them, and then the two bolters that have the slings. Pick a plain one for the fifth.
- Look in your bits box and find 3 more scopes. You know you have them. They come with every tactical marine frame.
- Attach the scopes to the bolters that don't have them.
- Voila! 5-man basic Sternguard squad, ready to go. Prime and paint, not forgetting to use white paint on the helmets and shoulder pad trim (or whatever your chapter color scheme for vets).

Black Reach to Sternguard
So here's my plan for getting some Sternguard converted up on the cheap.

Sounds like a hell of a plan! So, does this mean you will not buy the actual Strernguard minis when they are available? A man of many bits like yourself must certainly need more stuff? Ah well, the Sternguard will be metal anyway, so not much for extra bits in their box I'm sure.

ReplyDeleteI'll third the request for pics. Sounds interesting, I'm sure you also have plenty of other knickknacks on various sprues to spice them up even more. Purity Seals, auspexes, belt pouches and the like.

ReplyDelete@master darksol: Yeah, I'm going to add a bit or two here and there beyond the basic conversion, to give 'em a little more pop, make 'em stand out a bit more.
ReplyDelete@vredesbyrd: In my opinion, the Sternguard are the absolute best thing in the new codex. Their specialized ammo types makes them so versatile it's incredible!
